The Hawaii Recreation Park Association (HRPA) is ...

A non-profit, professional and public interest organization whose members are vitally concerned with elevating standards and promoting high criteria of professionalism in recreation and park activities. The scope of the Association's membership includes professionals, interested citizens, businesses, students and organizations in the recreation and park field at all levels and areas of service.

HRPA is dedicated to advancing the recreation and park field in the State of Hawaii by expanding professional and educational opportunities for its members and supporting programs that provide improved leisure services in Hawaii. The Association acts as an independent voice for the recreation, park and leisure movement at federal, state, and local levels, and is an affiliate of the National Recreation and Park Association.

Its Goals and Objectives are ...

  • To unite in one body all recreation and park workers in the State of Hawaii, including those in municipal, state, federal agencies as well as commercial and private enterprise.
  • To bring about a spirit of cooperation in the profession.
  • To elevate standards and promote high criteria of professionalism in recreation and park activities.
  • To extend opportunities to persons in the profession and serve as an exchange of information on all matters pertaining to recreation and park programs.
  • To create a climate conducive to the recruitment of young persons as professionals in the recreation and park field.

As a member of HRPA you will ...

1.  Be in the mainstream of your profession. Exchange ideas and have fun during various HRPA activities which include:

Annual State Training Conference Exhibits, semeinars, professional fellowships, outstanding recreation and park presentations, free interchange of ideas and concepts new to the field.

Workshops and Seminars Keep up-to-date with new trends in management, activities, and ideas in recreation and parks.

Socials Special celebrations, excursions, picnics and dinners are some opportunities to meet, talk and have fun with others in HRPA.

2.  Provide quality community service activities and assistance annually which include:

Hershey Track & Field Meet Conducted in June for children 9-14 years old with finalists being escorted to compete in the national meet in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Diamond Head Arts & Crafts Fair Considered one of the best and most popular craft fairs in the State of Hawaii and held every November on the campus of Kapiolani Community College.

Silver Streaks Seniors Sunrise Walk A very popular portion of the Great Aloha Run festivities during the Presidents' Day weekend for senior citizens and their family and friends.

Scholarships For students of the University of Hawaii and its community colleges.

Annual Monetary Contributions From the annual Island Basket Auction go to other deserving non-profit organizations in the community.
